China is ramping up its rescue and relief effort in the earthquake-hit southwest province of Yunnan, sending in thousands of members of the security forces to help local rescuers.

Around 400 people have been confirmed dead and up to two-thousand were injured when the earthquake of 6.1 magnitude struck on Sunday.

It's also reported that 12-thousand homes, and a school, may have collapsed.
