Cyclone Evan hits Samoa, but the worst may be over

The people of Samoa in the Pacific ocean are waiting to see if Tropical Cyclone Evan returns to the island on Friday.

The cateogry two storm had pounded the island for much of Thursday afternoon, with winds of up to 110 kilometres an hour.

Heavy rain has also caused flooding in parts of the capital Apia, with power outages across the island.

The storm also forced the closure of Samoa's international airport.
