Fiji's Forum membership to be decided after September poll

Updated 28 July 2014, 12:16 AEST

Fiji's membership of the Pacific Islands Forum will be discussed at this week's summit meeting in Palau.

But a decision to re-admit Fiji is unlikely to be taken until after September's election returns democratic rule to Fiji.

Fiji was suspended from the 16-member forum in 2009.

Forum Secretary General Tuiloma Neroni Slade says the leaders will also discuss a review of the regional organisation's operations, and select his replacement who will take office late this year.
