Greens call for end to Australian involvement in Malaysian mega dams

Updated 6 December 2012, 22:04 AEST

Some indigenous leaders from Sarawak are calling on Australian companies to end all involvement in plans to build a series of mega-dams in the Malaysian state.

Hydro Tasmania and Snowy Hydro Limited are two of the Australian companies involved in the hydro electric projects.

Activists say if the development goes ahead, tens of thousands of people in the Baram River region will be displaced, and large tracts of forest and farmland will be flooded.
