Heatwave: Temperatures in south-east Australia soar

The County Fire Service in the state of South Australia called today a "day of survival".

Despite temperatures soaring into the mid-40s celsius and some of the worst bushfire conditions for years, the state escaped relatively unscathed.

But the Service has battled several blazes in South Australia, the most severe at Finniss, south of the state capital Adelaide.
