Updated 12 February 2013, 21:44 AEDT

Philippine President Benigno Aquino has made a brief visit to the camp of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front to promote a peace pact.

The government and the MILF signed a framework agreement last October, committing both sides to form a new autonomous Muslim region in Mindanao before President Aquino's term ends in 2016.

Monday's visit was a confidence building effort and a show of government commitment to address the concerns of the Bangsamoro people.

Speakers: Dr Steven Rood, Philippines country representative for the Asia Foundation; Ghazali Jaffar the first vice chairman of the MILF
