Record tourist numbers to Australia

Tourists are arriving in record numbers in Australia but the industry says new government charges will hit the sector hard.

Visitors from China jumped by 30 per cent in March alone and reached 200-thousand in the first three months of the year, according to official figures.

Yet the tourism lobby group has strongly criticised government policies and revenue raising measures for their potential to turn away travellers.
