Thai lese-majeste prisoner Ampon Tangnoppakul dies in jail

A Thai man jailed for 20 years under Thailand's strict lese-majeste law, has died in jail.

62-year-old Ampon Tangnoppakul was convicted of sending text messages insulting to Queen Sirikit two years ago.

At the time, the European Union expressed concern about the unusually harsh sentence.

Mr Ampon died in prison this morning and the cause of death is being investigated.
