Tibetan immolations discussed at China-Tibet meeting in Australia

Updated 2 January 2013, 22:31 AEST

Academics and activists have held the first China-Tibet Conference in Australia.

There were no Chinese government representatives attending, but it was a rare chance for Tibetan and Chinese academics here to discuss current issues for the Tibetan Autonous Region.

One of the big issues for delegates was the ongoing issue of self-immolations by Tibetans, as part of broader demands by their community back home for greater autonomy.

Presenter: Liam Cochrane

Speaker: Sonam Dagpo, the Representative of the Dalai Lama in Australia
