UN rights envoy takes Myanmar to task

Myanmar's government has rejected a United Nations warning that the country may be backtracking on reforms, including a free media.

A posting on Facebook, curated by the Myanmar President's Office, said the government did not agree with the UN rapporteur for human rights, that the democratic space is shrinking.

It said a balance had to be struck between rights and what it called "ethical reporting and professionalism."
