Vietnamese journalists form independent union

Vietnam ranks as one of the worst countries for media freedom, due to censorship, surveillance and imprisonments.

But earlier this month, local supporters of press freedom moved to push back against government restrictions.

They met in Ho Chi Minh City to establish the Independent Journalists Association of Vietnam.

The move came ahead of the official human rights dialogue between Australia and Vietnam now under way in Hanoi.
