China's rapid economic growth linked to overseas aid

Updated 29 November 2012, 14:47 AEST

Asia's attitude to development cooperation and overseas aid is the focus of a forum at the Australian National University which features delegates from China, South Korea, India and Indonesia.

Asia's contribution to regional aid has increased significantly in recent years, and nowhere more so than in China, which has committed an extra 30 percent in development cooperation assistance over the past decade.

China is represented at the forum by Mao Xiaojing, who is Deputy Director at the Department of Development Assistance.

Ms Mao says there is direct link between her country's growing overseas commitments and the rapid growth of the Chinese economy.

Presenter: Richard Ewart

Speaker: Mao Xiaojing, Deputy Director, Department of Development Assistance
