A solar-powered floating school in Bangladesh has won an award at the 2012 World Innovation Summit in Education in Doha, Qatar.

The project was created by a Bangladesh-based non-profit organisation called Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha.

The idea behind a floating education system is to provide year-round access to quality education for students who live in flood-prone areas, particularly during the peak of the monsoons.

Architect Mohammed Rezwan says he built the boat, so that if children are unable to travel to school because of the flooding, the school can come to them.

Almost 70,000 children have benefited from the school since it opened ten years ago.
