New Deal for better aid delivery

Updated 23 November 2012, 16:47 AEDT

A recent initiative aims to ensure aid is delivered in a responsible way to countries emerging from conflict.

The G7-Plus Group of Fragile States is promoting the idea of a "New Deal" between aid donors and recipient states.

It's been operating for a year and now includes 18 countries - including several in Africa, plus Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan, Solomon Islands and East Timor - all nations emerging out of conflict.

East Timor's Finance Minister Emilia Pires, Chair of the G7-Plus Group, says the New Deal aims to improve aid effectiveness and country ownership.
