WHO emergency meeting on deadly 'Sars-like' virus

Concern of a global outbreak similar to the 2003 Sars epidemic prompted the World Health Organisation to convene an emergency committee meeting yesterday.

With an alarming death toll over 50 per cent, scientists still don't know where the virus came from and how it started.

The majority of cases have been found in Saudi Arabia and members of the WHO are concerned the disease may spread rapidly with millions travelling to the Hajj pilgrimage in October.
