Xenophon says Aust Govt complacent on Malaysia elections

Updated 25 February 2013, 16:15 AEDT

Australian Senator Nick Xenophon has spoken out this morning about the prospects of fair elections in Malaysia and what he says is Canberra's dismissive attitude towards democracy there.

Mr Xenophon has been an active supporter of the campaign for electoral reforms, Bersih, and was due to lead a cross bench delegation of Australian politicians to look at Malaysia's election environment.

But he was deported nine days ago, labelled a security risk.

Speaker: Nick Xenophon, an independent senator in Australia
