A shortage of maternity beds at Vila Central Hospital

An increase in the birth rate in Vanuatu is putting pressure on the maternity ward at Vila Central Hospital.

Vanuatu's Daily Post has revealed that as many as 15 mothers are sleeping on mattresses on the floor.

To find out more, Radio Australia's Pacific Mornings program contacted the hospital's midwifery advisor Christine Jackson.

Heather Jarvis asked her to outline the problem.
