Asylum seekers return to Indonesia after Australian escort

More details are emerging on just what may have contributed to the Australian Prime Minister's decision to pull out of a trip this week to Indonesia.

While Tony Abbott has publicly explained that he cancelled his visit because of preparations for next week's handing down of the budget, the ABC understands it was due instead to concerns about an asylum seeker operation at sea.

Now a group of asylum seekers has landed on the Indonesian Island of Rote and spoken to local media.

The ABC has obtained footage including interviews in which crew members of the asylum seeker boat say they were pushed back within sight of the Indonesian island, by 2 Australian vessels.
