Australia has revamped its Seasonal Workers Program to make it more attractive to employers.

A regional meeting in Sydney this week has been told up to 12,000 jobs will be available to Pacific Islanders over the next 4 years.

Workers will come from Tonga, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, Nauru, Samoa, Tuvalu and Solomon Islands.

Mark Roddam, from the Australian Department of Employment Education and Workplace Relations, acknowledges the problems of the past but says there have been significant changes to the flexibility of the scheme, to make it more attractive.
