Australia PNG Business Council welcomes new E-Visa

Updated 10 December 2012, 18:45 AEST

The business community in Australia has welcomed the recent announcement that it'll be easier for Papua New Guineans to apply for visas to come to Australia.

Peter Taylor, the President of the Australia Papua New Guinea Business Council has welcomed the introduction of electronic visa applications which can be done over the internet.

The difficulty of getting visas to enter Australia has been an annoyance for many PNG people in the past, and has even led to some business meetings being held in other countries, such as Singapore.

Peter Taylor told Bruce Hill it's a positive step forward, although his members would like to see further changes, such as being able to fly from Cairns direct to domestic destinations in PNG such as Lae, Madang and Rabaul instead of having to go through Port Moresby.
