Australia has welcomed steps Fiji is taking to return to democracy and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop saying it's high time the reft between Canberra and Suva was ended.

So how does Australia view the proposal by Fiji's Media Industry Development Authority to monitor media coverage for bias and extend the government's media decree to foreign media outlets and training organisations working in the country?
