Australian Olympic chief in line for top international position

This week the Australian Olympic Committee chief, John Coates, will consolidate his position as one of the most powerful figures in world sport.

It is now clear that he will be elected unopposed as Vice-President of the International Olympic Committee.

At one point it seemed he would face a challenge from a Syrian official, but its now clear that the Mr Coates will be the ONLY nominee.

Peter Lewis has been following the political manoeuvring at the IOC meeting in Buenos Aires and filed this report:
