Australian police to return to training role in Vanuatu

Updated 14 February 2013, 9:35 AEST

Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr says Vanuatu has agreed to allow the Australian Federal Police to resume their training role in Port Vila.

The announcement ends a standoff sparked by a diplomatic incident at Sydney airport when Vanuatu Prime Minister Sato Kilman was forced to pass through normal immigration and customs procedures, so that AFP officers could arrest his private secretary on fraud charges.

But the return is short term and conditional.
