Australian public "reluctant" to accept Indigenous recognition vote

The minority Australian Green party has welcomed legislation to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as Australia's first inhabitants.

The Federal Government says the legislation is a step towards holding a referendum to recognise Indigenous Australians in the constitution, but doesn't think it has gathered enough public support to succeed.
