Australia's Government takes on an emissions trading scheme

Updated 18 July 2013, 9:56 AEST

In Australia, Federal ministers are out promoting the Government's plan to dump the carbon tax and switch to an emissions trading scheme a year early.

The Labour Government has spent its term in office defending the scheme and with a new Prime Minister, it's being dumped, with the promise that it will save the average household 380 dollars a year.

So what's the difference and what does it actually mean for the global environment? Will it have flow-on benefits for the Pacific?

Presenter: Geraldine Coutts

Speaker: John Connor, CEO of the Climate Institute
