Cairns residents want croc controls

Updated 21 September 2012, 17:22 AEST

There are fresh calls to cull saltwater crocodiles in far north Queensland, after a fisherman's dog was snatched by a three-and-a-half metre crocodile at Deep Creek, north of the city of Cairns.

The creek runs into Kewarra Beach, which is popular with dog-walkers and families.

Authorities say it's a known croc habitat so people should take precautions, but recreational users say they want their beaches back.
