Catholic Church accused of a systematic cover-up of organised paedophilia

Updated 9 November 2012, 10:06 AEST

A senior detective in New South Wales has levelled a series of explosive allegations against the Catholic Church in Australia and is demanding a Royal Commission into sexual abuse by priests.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Fox claims there has been a systematic cover-up of organised paedophilia by the Catholic church hierachy.

He says police work has been stymied, evidence has been destroyed and in one case, he was ordered to stand down from investigating clergy abuse.

He says he's frustrated and angry and he's publicly demanding the New South Wales premier set up an inquiry into paedophilia within the church.
