Child sexual abuse Royal Commission neglects offshore detention

Updated 21 May 2015, 18:02 AEST

Australia's wide-ranging Royal Commission into child sexual abuse could be about to widen its net and investigate allegations of mistreatment in Australian immigration detention centres.

The Commission has been hearing harrowing testimony, much of it decades-old, from victims of sexual abuse in government and church institutions across the country.

But initial detail about widening the investigation seems to exclude offshore detention.

Presenter: Virginia Trioli and Marius Benson

Speaker: Eliza Borello, ABC's political reporter in Canberra; Sarah Hanson-Young, Greens party senator
