Court challenge to delay in Vanuatu PM vote

Updated 22 March 2013, 10:29 AEDT

Vanuatu is without a prime minister after Sato Kilman unexpectedly resigned and blocked opposition efforts to move a no confidence motion in his leadership in the process.

Instead the speaker of parliament has called a special sitting for next Friday when MPs will vote for a new Prime Minister.

The proposed new prime minister is Moana Carcasses.

But opposition leader, Edward Natapei, says such a move is in breach of standing orders, and he's seeking an urgent High Court ruling.

Presenter: Hilaire Bule

Speaker: Edward Natapei, Opposition leader, Vanuatu
