In Papua New Guinea, the opposition continues to grow against deep sea mining.

The Canadian company Nautilus is moving ahead with plans to begin the world's first deep sea mining project in the Bismark Sea.

Locals says the mine will significantly threaten the livelihood of coastal people living around New Britain Province.

Alois Balar of the Baining Environmental Heritage Foundations says the threat to people's livelihood will also damage their culture and traditions that they have preserved for generations.
