Dengue fever fears in Fiji

Updated 7 January 2014, 10:26 AEDT

Across the Pacific health authorities have been renewing their warnings about the spread of mosquito borne diseases.

In Fiji alone, more than 400 cases of dengue fever have been reported since the start of November last year.

There authorities are worried a strain of dengue not seen for 20 years could be spreading with people moving from urban to rural areas during the festive period.

Concerns about other similar viruses have also been raised in French Polynesia and New Caledonia.

Presenter: Brendan Arrow.
