Desperate need for housing in cyclone hit areas

Assessments are still being conducted into the extent of the damage by tropical cyclone Evan in Fiji and Samoa.

The eye of the storm went directly over Lautoka on Fiji's west coast where communities, governments and NGO's are all struggling to deal with the damage.

Initial assessments by Fiji Red Cross Society indicate that as many as 600 house have been severely damaged in Lautoka alone.
