EEZ Mapping to help Pacific plan better use of marine resources

A new plan to map out the use of Pacific Island nations exclusive econmic zone will use marine spatial planning to allow countries to better plan the use of marine resources.

Marine management incorporating fishing, mining, tourism and other sectors will all be taken into account.

Paul Anderson, Environmental Monitoring Analyst from the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme, says the begining of the project starts with the understanding what marine spatial planning means.
