There could be an extra one billion dollars a year to be distributed to member nations of the Forum Fisheries Agency following a breakthrough in the monitoring of illegal fishing and the under-reporting of catches.

A new data-driven process is leading the way in a crackdown on the plundering of the world's biggest and most important tuna fishery.

The program, developed with funding from the European Union, involves co-operation between the Secretariat of Pacific Communities and the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency.

Presenter: Geraldine Coutts

Speaker: Mark Young, director of Fisheries Operations at the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency
