Former PNG PM Sir Mekere Morauta retiring from politics

Papua New Guinea's one-time Prime Minister, Sir Mekere Morauta has announced at a party convention this week he's retiring from politics.

He says he will not nominate to contest the Moresby Northwest seat in the 2012 national elections.

Sir Mekere says he has to make way for younger leaders to take the PNG Party he founded, and got him to form a government between 1999 and 2002.
