French nuclear test veterans frustrated by court ruling

French Polynesia's nuclear test veterans' organisation says the latest court ruling, allowing them to file for compensation a second time, has left veterans frustrated.

The organisation, Moruroa e tatou, began the process of filing for compensation 10 years ago after several nuclear test veterans were diagnosed with cancer.

But their claims were rejected by the compensation committee in France who say the veterans' illness was not caused by nuclear tests carried out in the South Pacific.

Earlier this week, an administrative court overrode the committee's rejection of their claims, allowing them to file for compensation a second time.

Emma Younger spoke to the President of Moruroa e tatou, Roland Oldham, about what this latest ruling means for nuclear test veterans.
