History made as PNG league player recruited directly to Penrith

After the bitter disappointment for the Kumuls at the World Cup, rugby league in Papua New Guinea has received a huge boost.

One of the country's rising stars, 20-year-old Wellington Albert, has signed a professional contract with Penrith Panthers in Australia's National Rugby League.

PNGRFL's deputy chairman Sandis Tsaka says the signing is clear evidence that the sport's development programme is starting to work.
