Human rights inquiry continues on Manus Island

On Manus Island in Papua New Guinea hearings have continued at the Human Rights Inquiry into conditions at the Australian run asylum seeker detention and processing centre.

Yesterday the judge overseeing the inquiry Justice David Canning, visited the centre. He told the court he didn't talk to any of the detainees, although some there tried to communicate with him, and he described the atmosphere as "very tense".
