The premier of Australia's eastern state of Queensland, Campbell Newman, has met indigenous elders from the community of Logan, in an effort to quell racial tensions.

Conflict between Aboriginal and Pacific Islander residents erupted last week, during four nights of riots centred around a suburban house.

Police were called in to separate the groups, and one of the families at the centre of the violence has moved to the Gold Coast to try to ease the situation. But community elders say there are unresolved issues and they worry the conflict will hit boiling point again.

Presenter: Nance Haxton

Speaker: Campbell Newman, Queensland Premier
