Insider says guards invited locals into Manus detention centre

A new insider account has emerged of the bloodshed at Australia's asylum seeker detention centre on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea.

PNG correspondent Liam Cochrane has spoken to sources who have told him the guards employed by the security firm G4S invited local residents into the detention centre.

Liam Cochrane says those same sources claim PNG locals were subsequently involved in attacking asylum seekers.
