In a bid to engage more young Maori in high-level science jobs and businesses, the University of Otago is launching a new internship program this month.

In partnership with the Federation of Maori Authorities, and Industrial Research Limited, it'll bring undergrad and postgrad Maori students to the capital Wellington for a ten-week stint.

They'll also travel around the country meeting and working with Maori-run businesses.

The program was launched on Saturday at the Federation's annual conference in Taupo.

Otago University deputy Vice Chancellor Richard Blaikie says they're aiming to attract students across a range of disciplines.
