The final proposal for Solomon Islands long-awaited Tina River hydro-power scheme should be ready to go to the government in early 2013.

At the moment electricity is so expensive in Solomon Islands that only 20 percent of households use power delivered by the Solomon Islands Electricity Authority.

And power costs and blackouts are driving away investment which could be creating jobs.

Jemima Garrett reports feasibility studies for a dam on the Tina river began back in 2009 but the shape of the final proposal has been delayed by unexpected problems with the geology of the river.
