After the Commonwealth Games the next big multi-sports event on the agenda for the Pacific nations will be the Pacific Games in Port Moresby.

And with the Pacific Games Council having voted to allow limited participation by Australia and New Zealand for the first time, some interesting contests lie in store.

None more so than in weightlifting where PNG's Commonwealth Games gold medal winner Steve Kari is likely to come up against his Australian rival and silver medallist Simplice Ribouem.

Andrew Minogue, Executive Director of the Pacific Games Council says the tense rivalry could be a huge drawcard for the games.
