Madeleine McCann appeal continues

Updated 15 October 2013, 17:30 AEDT

The parents of missing British child Madeleine McCann say they are optimistic of a breakthrough in the case, following a new police appeal for information.

British police say they've significantly changed their understanding of the events on the night that the 3 year-old disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in Portugal in 2007. Overnight, they released images of a man they say may hold the clue to what happened to the little girl and are appealing for anyone who recognizes him to come forward.
