Major initiative to cut high TB rate in PNG

Papua New Guinea's health system is at breaking point with rundown facilities, a lack of staff and a shortfall of funding.

But every year it has to deal with 14,500 new cases of Tuberculosis, and it most cases no treatment is available.

Australian health authorities are trying to prevent TB spreading from PNG to Australia and as part of that 14 institutes involved in the fight against TB have joined forces to try to reduce the impact of the disease on our neighbours.
