The Pacific has some of the world's the highest rates of domestic violence, with two out of three women in the region experiencing intimate partner violence.

But the social problem is plainly not limited to the Pacific and here in Australia some say there is a national emergency with incidence of domestic violence reaching epidemic proportions.

And it's the universal nature of domestic violence that's being highlighted at the Pacific Women's Parliamentary Partnerships Forum in Suva

Liberal MP for Macquarie, Louise Markus is among 18 Australian delegates at the meeting.

She has strong family ties to the Pacific and has seen first hand what women in the region go through.

Presenter: Richard Ewart

Speaker: Louise Markus, Liberal MP for Macquarie, Australian Federal Parliament
