Mobile phone company Vodaphone New Zealand has released an app for mobile phones which helps teach New Zealanders some basic phrases in the Maori language.

Called Hika Lite, the app allows people to build their own sentences by swiping a list of phrases across the screen, and then hear the message translated into Maori.

The company released the app to mark Maori Language Week.

Bruce Hill spoke to the person who came up with the app, and decided the best way to welcome her would be to actually use it.
