More HIV orphans in PNG

Updated 31 January 2013, 9:50 AEDT

Anedcotal evidence suggests that increasing numbers of children are being orphaned in Papua New Guinea by parents dying of AIDS.

The Friends Foundation says 15 newly orphaned children have been brought to the Foundation for care from remote areas of PNG. The Foundation doesn't provide full time care but raises funds for allowances and education, and its founder, Jessie Soi, is opposed to children being brought up in orphanages and looks to place them with members of their extended families.
