Nauru appoints new Chief Justice

Updated 5 August 2014, 11:00 AEST

Nauru has appointed a new Chief Justice and two new judges to oversee court cases on the island nation.

This comes after the controversial removal of Chief Justice Geoffrey Eames and Resident Magistrate Peter Law at the beginning of this year.

The new Chief Justice is Joni Madraiwiwi from Fiji and the other two appointments are from Australia; Justice Mohammed Shafi Khan and Justice Jane Elizabeth Hamilton-White.

The President of Nauru's Law Society Vinci Clodumar says he hasn't had time to scrutinise the qualifications of the new appointments.

Presenter: Geraldine Coutts
