New bid for Parliamentary approval for funding Port Vila's new airport

Updated 7 April 2014, 8:39 AEST

The Vanuatu government is pressing ahead with its grand plan for a new airport for Port Vila.

It will be the country's largest infrastructure project ever, and the government is seeking parliamentary approval to issue Promisory Notes to the value of 350-million dollars to allow a Singapore company to make a start on construction.

But a second extraordinary session of Parliament has been called for this week to discuss the Promisory Notes, with the plan causing concern within the opposition ranks.
